Fish fly in space to test gravity
1. Given that gravity affects the growth of structures made essentially of
calcium carbonate, why do you think scientists chose to send snails into
space with the fish?
2. Which natural rocks consist mainly of calcium carbonate?
3. a) Which organ in the human body is responsible for detecting gravity
and balance?
b) Which parts are responsible for each function?
4. Divide the organisms in the space aquarium into producers, primary
and secondary consumers?
5. a)What is the relationship between the value of the acceleration due to
gravity and the force which acts upon it?
b) How might this explain why otoliths and statoliths, which hang from sensory hairs in humans, grow bigger when gravity is reduced?
